OCTOBER 2018 RIDE SCHEDULE


Tuesday, October 2nd:

10:15 AM-FUN-H1-25 SE – Meet Cyndy Klepinger (303-725-1565 or matilda8@msn.com) at Lowry Soccer Fields, Fairmont Blvd and Sports Blvd. near the outdoor restrooms on the west end of the park. We’ll ride a loop on Highline Canal and other bike paths to enter the Cherry Creek Reservoir on the east. Depending on the group, a loop around the reservoir is possible. Return on Cherry Creek and Highline Canal Path. Lunch afterwards at restaurant in Lowry. This is a no-drop ride. 


Wednesday, October 3rd:

9:30 AM FUN-H1-13 SW - Meet Fred Kerr (303.968.8789) at Waterton Canyon for a pretty fall ride. Perhaps we’ll see sheep? Wider tires best but not required. Lunch after at a local restaurant. You can add additional miles around the reservoir if you wish. 5:00 PM FUN-H1-15 SW Meet a new ride leader -Suzanne Carter 720-540-6738 at The Pint Room at River Point west of Santa Fe on Bellevue. We’ll take an out and back along the river trail and then enjoy a pint on the patio. 


Thursday, October 4th: 

9:00 AM for Beignets or 10:00 AM for Birds and Biking. Meet Ellen Chilikas at 9 AM at the Lucille’s Creole Cafe at 2852 W Bowles Ave. in Littleton for coffee and a beignet. Then at 10 we will start biking if the weather is nice or walking if the weather is iffy. We will go up and down the Platte River looking for ducks and other water birds for a total biking distance of 10-15 miles. We will wrap up by 11:30 AM. Remember to bring your binoculars! We’ll repeat on November 8th and December 6th. 


Friday, October 5th: 

10:00 AM H1-2–25–FUN-PLUS NE BFF BIKE FRIDAY RIDE Join Lise Neer (303-249-8621) at Cake Crumbs (22nd & Kearney in Park Hill) for a moderate-level spin around town on your Bike Friday (or just ride your ‘normal’ steed if you don’t have a BF). We’ll start off going southbound to the Cherry Creek trail, out to the dam and then retrace toward REI at Confluence Park. Option to ride farther north on the Platte and return via Sand Creek and Dahlia, for a total of ~30 miles. No Drop! Lunch afterward near the starting point if desired. Route may change without notice, so stay tuned! 

11:30 AM FUN PLUS-H1/2-15-30, SW - Brewery Ride to TBD Brewery. Meet Ellen Chilikas (outdoorsdiva@yahoo.com) at Riverside Downs Park (2600 W Belleview Ave, Littleton, CO 80123) on the north west corner of Santa Fe and Prince near the Pedal Bike Shop in Littleton. Park on the far east side of the parking lot across from 24 Hour Fitness. Ellen will post detailed info on Meetup the week before the ride. Expect a fun group visiting a great brewery! Leader will bring snacks. Please bring a bike lock and as always wear your helmet! Please be ready to ride by 11:30 AM! THIS IS A FAIR WEATHER RIDE - pavement must be dry for the ride to be a go. 


Saturday October 6  

Fall Ride and Picnic Rides: 

7:00 AM INT-H2-63-SE Meet Ellen Fitzpatrick (720-209-2269) for an early start for the picnic metric century ride starting at the Arapahoe Trailhead (park at the picnic location there South side of Arapahoe Road east past Jordan Road). This is a loop ride heading south on Cherry Creek Trail and west on C-470 Trail winding our way to the Platte river greenway north to REI, then north and east through Park Hill. From there south along Krameria and other paths to the Cherry Creek Trail and south into the reservoir and back to the picnic. NOTE this will be fast paced averaging more than 12 mph so we will be back in time to enjoy the picnic. Bring snacks as there will be only 3 or 4 quick rest stops. 

8:00 AM FUN-PLUS (Avg. pace of 13-17mph) H2-3, 33 or 45 miles – Cyndy Klepinger will lead a ride on the Piney Creek trail to Aurora Reservoir out & back (33 miles incl. 8 mile loop around the res), with opportunity to add a 15-mile loop around Cherry Creek reservoir and back (for a total of 45+ miles). Bring plenty of water, and snacks, since the vendor at Aurora Reservoir is closed for the season. Water is available. Targeted return to the picnic by 12:00-12:30PM. 

9:30 AM Leisure-H2-18-SE Richard Gieseler (303-722-1475) invites all leisure riders for a leisurely cruise from Arapahoe Rd. and Cherry Creek trailhead in Parker starting at 9:30 am to McCabe Meadows and back for lunch. It’s 9 miles one way out and back so we can pick the distance we want and get reunited on the way back. No one gets left behind! Call Richard if you have questions. See you there! 

10:30AM FUN H1-2, 15 miles – Join Lise Neer  (303-249-8621) for a Cherry Creek loop by itself (start by 10:30AM latest to return by Noon for the picnic — 12:00-2:30PM) We’ll join the FUN-PLUS group at the intersection of Piney Creek and CC trail—just north of the Arapahoe Rd trailhead--as they return from Aurora). 

10:30AM INT H2 35-40 SE Meet Dennis Fitzpatrick at 10:30 at the Denver Ctry. Club on the S. side of 1st and Gilpin for a 35-40 mile ride to the DBTC picnic and back. Pace will be at 16-17 mph average. Ride will take place if dry and the temp. is over 50 degrees at 10:30.  Call Dennis at 303 322 0290 w. questions.


Sunday, October 7th: 

11:00 AM, MTB P2, T2, Ridgeline Open Space -- THE RIDE: Meet Jim Black (303-888-3122) at Bison Park. For your GPS units, the address of Bison Park is 1390 Clear Sky Way, Castle Rock, CO 80109. A trail map can be found at: http://crgov.com/DocumentCenter/ Home/View/296 . DIRECTIONS: Depending on whether you are coming south on I-25 or south on Hwy. 85 (Santa Fe Drive). Driving down I-25: Take exit 184 (US-85 N/Meadows Parkway) from I-25. Turn west (right) at the end of the exit ramp onto Meadows Parkway and follow it for about 2.2 miles to Coachline Road. Turn left (south) on Coachline for about 0.5 miles to Foothills Drive. Turn right (west) on Foothills for about 0. 4 miles to Clear Sky Way, where Clear Sky Elementary School will be on your left. Turn left (south) October 2018 DBTC Ride Schedule 11 and travel three blocks to the parking lot for Bison Park on your left (opposite Ochre Drive on your right). Turn into the lot and park near the entrance. We will ride up a local street to one of the somewhat obscure trailheads for Ridgeline. NOTE that this is NOT the trailhead farther south and east (on Coachline Road, a bit north of Wolfensberger Road, with a pretty small parking lot)! Driving down Hwy. 85: When you get close to Castle Rock (5.2 miles south of Sedalia), turn right (west) onto Meadows Parkway and follow it for 1.9 miles to Coachline Road. From this intersection the directions are the same as those from I-25. THE FOOD: Bring tailgate picnic food and beverages to share post-ride. Also bring folding chairs - and tables - if you have them.


Monday, October 8th: 

11:00 AM, MTB, P3, T1.5, Boulder, Foothills, & Plains – This one got rained out this spring so let’s try again. Meet Alison Preble (720-854-9923, ajbikes@yahoo.com) at the South Teller Lake Trailhead east of Boulder to explore Boulder City and County trails. This loop ride is mostly on nontechnical routes with only a couple of short rocky/steep sections. Ride has approx. 1,300 ft. of total gain. We will ride 30 miles on a variety of trails including paved roads (30%), dirt roads (10%), granite/groomed bike paths (35%), concrete bike paths (15%) and single and double track (10%), with some steady climbs. We will grab a bite to eat at a TBD restaurant location after the ride. DIRECTIONS: Narrow dirt road leading to trailhead is on the north side of Arapahoe Ave. between Foothills Pkwy. and 95thSt. east of Boulder. The turn off of Arapahoe Rd. is about 1.5 miles west of 95thSt. or 4 miles east of Foothills Pkwy. There is a squat brown sign on the north side of Arapahoe Ave. at the dirt road for “Teller Farm South Trailhead” but it blends in well with the fields around it and is easy to miss. The trailhead parking lot is approx. ½ mile down the dirt road. Trailhead parking is limited, carpooling is recommended. Tuesday, October 9th: 

10:15 AM FUN-H1-25 SE. Meet Cyndy Klepinger at the Cook Rec Center parking lot at Cherry Street (between Monaco and Quebec). (303) 725-1565 or matilda8@msn.com. Ride will be a loop on Highline Canal to Dartmouth Street, to Franklin Street to Washington Park. Return on Cherry Creek. This is a no-drop ride. Lunch afterwards at a restaurant in Glendale. 


Wednesday, October 10th: 

9:30 AM Leisure-H2-13-SW Waterton Canyon Fall Color Ride. Meet Richard Gieseler (303-722-1475) at the parking lot by Waterton Canyon trailhead at the SW end of Chatfield Lake State Park at 9:30 am. Motor south on Wadsworth Ave. and turn off left and south before the hogback. We will ride up and back on the access road which averages a 4% grade up to the Strontia Springs Dam viewpoint. Previous rides have provided bighorn sheep views, bird fly bys and other nature interactions. Tailgate party in parking lot so bring some unrefrigerated goodies. No dropped riders!

10:00 AM FUN-H2-20-SW Meet Dave Noble (home 303-694-2008; cell 303-906-3163 at the “tennis bubble” on Santa Fe and Bowles for a ride on the Platte River and Bear Creek trails and through various neighborhoods in Pinehurst, Bow Mar, Grant Ranch, Leawood, and Columbine. Lunch afterwards.

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H1-22-SE Meet Dick and Lynette Shelton (720-934-9824) at Treads Bicycle Outfitters, 16701 East Iliff, Aurora, for an end of season ride to the Cherry Creek/Arapahoe Road Trailhead. Afterwards join us at Peak To Peak Brewery, next door to Treads, for refreshments.

11:00 AM, MTB, P2-3, T1-3, Waterton Canyon -- Our leader for this classic ride is Jeff Baysinger (303-969-9241). Waterton Canyon is located about 4.1 miles south of C-470 on Wadsworth. Look for the brown info at the turn toward Lockheed, go left and pass the first Audubon parking lot to find the larger canyon parking lot. Start gathering around 10:45 for an 11:00 AM ride to Lenny’s Bench. The first 6.3 miles are on the gravel road to Strontia Springs Dam, gaining about 500’. Those who want only a short ride could turn around here, P1,T1. Keep an eye peeled for spotting big horn sheep along the way. Take a break at the dam, then go another 1.7 miles to Lenny’s Bench, gaining another 600’. This second section is a great single track climb. There is a side trail by Lenny’s going toward Roxborough for an optional loop, if desired. Afterward, join for some of the best pizza in the Denver area at Vergilio’s. Vergilio’s is located on the west side of Kipling, just north of C-470, across from the shopping center on the east side.


Sunday, October 14th: 

10:00 AM FUN PLUS -H2-29-SE Meet Ellen Fitzpatrick (720-209-2269) at the Cook Recreation Center parking lot (on South Cherry Creek Street just east of Monaco) for a loop ride starting east along the Cherry Creek bike path out to Cherry Creek Reservoir. Circle through the Rez. clockwise and out along Union through the Tech Center and through neighborhood streets north toward Dartmouth, west to Franklin and north through Wash Park and back to start. Lunch after.

10:15 AM INT – H2 – 40 NE. Meet Dee Reda and Cyndy Klepinger (303.725.1565) at Arapahoe Elementary School, 13095 Pecos, Westminster for a ride from north Westminster to Boulder via the Denver/Boulder bike path. On- street routes include Route 7 thru Lafayette and then south on Sheridan to end. Ave pace will be 14 – 16 mph, and some hills. Few stops to regroup.


Tuesday, October 16th:

10:00 AM, MTB P3, T4, Dakota Ridge/Red Rocks Trail -- THE RIDE: Meet Steve Thomas (303-419-2531) for a ride on the Dakota Ridge and Matthews/Winters Park trails. The ride will be approx. 8.5 miles with several rocky and technical sections. This is not a beginner trail and will have some hike-a-bike sections. Meet at the Green Mtn. parking lot on the west side of Green Mtn. off Rooney Road. at 10:00AM. THE DIRECTIONS: Take the W. Alameda Pkwy. exit off C-470 and go west to Rooney Road. Go north on Rooney Rd to the parking lot on the right. THE FOOD: We’ll go to a local restaurant after the ride. QUESTIONS: Contact Steve Thomas at 303-419-2531. 


Wednesday, October 17th: 

10:00 AM H1-25 SE Meet Les Avery at Village Green Park (near Dayton and Union) for a beautiful fall ride from Cherry Creek Reservoir to Parker. This ride is all on trails.

10:00 AM INT-H2-S- 30-35 miles, Avg. speed 15-16 mph. Meet Dennis Fitzpatrick (303-322-0290) just in front of the Denver Country Club, 1st Ave. & Gilpin St., for a ride to and around Cherry Creek Reservoir. Plenty of parking on Gilpin across from the Club. Lunch after at Native Foods Cafe; healthy & delicious. If you are slower than 15-16 you can just ride 75 minutes and turn around & we should all get back at the same time. Questions Call Dennis. 

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H3-21 W – Meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) for this new adventure, The Hidden Gems of Golden. We will meet at Lions Park at 10th and Maple in Golden and ride the Golden Circle and beyond to Heritage Park and other unexplored areas. This ride has been improved each time that I lead it so I can now promise you a rose garden!!!! 


Sunday, October 21st: 

10:00 AM FUN-H1-25-SE Meet Sharon Bair (303-898-8581) at Tagawa’s nursery (park at the Broncos Parkway lot) and meet there at the shelter. We will ride on the South Cherry Creek Trail south to the end of the paved area by the Pinery. Speed will be 10 to 11 mph. This is an out and back, distance of about 23 to 25 miles.

 

Tuesday, October 23rd: 

10:30 AM, MTB, P3, T3, Mt. Falcon Park -- Meet Darrell Deering (303-697-6126) at the Mt. Falcon west parking lot in Indian Hills. We will plan to ride all the west trails on Mt. Falcon. Find trail info at https://www.jeffco.us/1332/Mount-Falcon-Park . THE DIRECTIONS: Go west on 285, take Indian Hills Parmalee Gulch exit. Follow Parmalee Gulch Road till just past Parmalee Gulch Park. Turn right on Picutis, follow till right turn on Nambe, then right turn on Mt. Falcon Road. POST-RIDE: Lunch after the ride in the area. 


Wednesday, October 24th: 

10:00 AM Leisure-H2-20-SW Lin Hark Season End Potluck Meet Lin Hark (303-578-9369) at her house for a Potluck Picnic and a Leisure ride along Bear Creek and the So Platte Trail to make a loop back to her house for a Potluck Picnic. Bring your contribution to the Potluck lunch and you can put it in Lin’s fridge. Please RSVP for Ride and Potluck and Lin will send her address and directions to her house. 

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-25to30-SW Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) behind the tennis bubble at W Bowles and S Federal ride into Ken Caryl and over the hog back. The scenery is a beautiful on the downhill then we’ll come back through Chatfield. Lunch afterwards is in downtown Littleton. 


Friday, October 26th: 

11:30 AM FUN PLUS-H1/2-15-30, SW - Brewery Ride to TBD Brewery. Saturday, October 27th: 

10:00 AM FUN PLUS-H2-22-NW Scary Halloween Graveyard Ride, meet Jeff Krinsky (720-373-9107) at Arvada park and ride, NW corner of Wadsworth Blvd and 55th for this tour of old Arvada graveyards. Costumes are welcome but not required. There will be a ghoulish lunch afterwards for those who survive this haunting experience! 


Sunday, October 28th: 

11:00 AM, MTB, P2-3, T2-3 Picture Rock (Heil Valley) – Meet Chuck Caldwell (303-807-1562) at the Picture Rock Trailhead. From there we’ll climb Picture Rock trail and do a loop on Heil Valley’s Wild Turkey and Ponderosa trails. If you do the full loop, you’ll be riding about 14.6 miles with 1350 feet climbing. DIRECTIONS: From Boulder take US 36 to Lyons. Turn left at 5th Avenue (CO-7) and go for half a mile to Old St. Vrain Road. Turn left and take Old St. Vrain for a third of a mile to Red Gulch Road. Go two tenths of a mile on Red Gulch to the Picture Rock parking lot, which will be on your right. Map: https://assets.bouldercounty.org/wp-content/ uploads/2017/03/.pdf . POST-RIDE: Brews, food, and tall tales at Oskar Blues in Lyons. 


Tuesday, October 30th: 

11:00 AM, MTB P3, T2, Centennial Cone -- THE RIDE: Meet Vallery Mee (303-322-8332) at the north parking lot of Centennial Cone. The loop is around 12-14 miles. Info at: http://jeffco.us/open-space/parks/centennial-cone-park/ . THE TIME: 11:00AM (WHEELS ROLLING! PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY ENOUGH TO START AT THAT TIME.) THE DIRECTIONS: To find the parking lot, google “Centennial Cone North Trailhead, 3956 Camino Perdido, Golden, CO 80403.” Or follow these directions: Take Colorado Hwy. 93 north from Golden approximately one mile to Golden Gate Canyon Rd. Travel west about 8 miles to Robinson Hill Rd. Turn left and continue to Camino Perdido, the north access road into the park. The trailhead is approximately one mile to the south. THE FOOD: Bring food and drink for a picnic lunch afterward in the Centennial Cone parking lot. Remember your folding chair!


Wednesday, October 31st: 

10:00 AM FUN-H2/H3-25 SW Meet Patty Gaspar (303-618-5069) behind the McDonald’s at Sheridan and Hampden. We’ll head to the Tech Center on various trails. We have to climb some hills and there are sections on the Highline Canal (pea gravel), and then we’ll have our morning latte COMPLEMENTS OF DBTC and loop back to Bear Valley. It is a beautiful fall ride and we get have a wonderful downhill back to Bear Valley. Lunch is in Bear Valley. A great way to end the season. 

Saturday, November 3th: 

Lin’s Birthday Rides -- 3 Ride choices from REI. Suggested parking at City of Cuernavaca Park for 3 hours or less, REI overflow lot south of the store, or the Downtown Aquarium pay lot. (Directions to Parking: exit I-25 at 23rd Ave., drive past REI and continue north on Platte St about 5 blocks, under the overpass, to the parking lot.) Note: Lin rides at a Leisure pace (8-10 mph) but faster riders are free to go ahead at any point in the ride. 

9:15 AM STAGE 1 FUN/Leisure-H1-18-Central Meet Lin Hark at REI’s South Deck FUN/Leisure morning riders will meet at 9:15 AM sharp for the morning 18 miles. 9:15 AM STAGE 1 FUN-H1-25-Central Hardy riders can brave the morning chill for a short brisk ride north to South Platte River Park on 88th and back on the South Platte trail to arrive at REI for a quick break before stage 2 at 11:15 AM. 

11:15 AM STAGE 2 FUN/Leisure-H1-16-Central Meet Lin at the REI Flagship Store’s sunny porch for the second stage of her birthday ride. Ride out and back on Cherry Creek Trail. Meet at REI no later than 11:15 AM.

1:15-2:15 PM LUNCH CELEBRATION Lunch at Starbucks Meet your DBTC friends at REI hopefully out on the deck in the sunshine, but if the sun’s not shining we can go inside Starbucks to warm up. If you’re not riding anymore but just want to join the fun just come for lunch! Or do your own ride from home and meet at REI for lunch. 

2:15 PM STAGE 3 FUN/Leisure-H1-25-Central Start with Lin from REI for the last leg going South on the Platte to Hudson Gardens and back. Riders who choose to do only the afternoon ride can come at 1:15 PM to join the group for lunch before riding the afternoon 25 miles (or turn around whenever you like). Bring layers of clothes, water, snacks, lunch to eat at REI (or you can buy a sandwich at Starbucks or Vitamin Cottage) a lock and money for lunch. No gifts, your presence will be Lin’s gift. This ride will go regardless of the temperature or trail conditions. Note: The miles don’t add up because Lin will be riding to and from the ride herself. 

Thursday, November 8th:
